Overview

The Salkantay mountain, according to some authors, the name of this mountain is a combination that comes from Salqa = wild and Antay = produces avalanches. FAQs

What can I find in Salkantay?
The Salkantay Trek is a trek in Peru and an alternative to the traditional Inca Trail to reach Machu Picchu. It presents a unique combination of culture and nature, proudly preserved by the local people. The trek crosses two of the highest peaks in Cusco, the Humantay and Salkantay mountains, where the cold wind from the mountains collides with the humid heat of the jungle that causes the rains and maintains the life of the surrounding forests.

The walk along this route offers an incredible diversity of animal species found nowhere else on earth.

Birds like the cock of the rocks and mammals like the siguayro that inhabit these forests protected by the Peruvian state.

It also has the thermal waters of Cocalmayo, transparent in the middle of the mountain and the river.
